Sunscreen- All your Qs answered!

At Elly, we recommend that you take extra care to wear Sun Protective clothing, AND wear sunscreen.

When it comes to shielding your skin from the sun, the type of sunscreen you choose is as important as how you use it. Here are some of our tips to keep yourself sun safe!

1. Purchase UV-A and UV-B protection

Always chose  a sunscreen that provides UV-A and UV-B protection. UV-B Protection will protect your skin from Ultraviolet (B) rays which are the main cause of sunburns and skin damage, while UV-A Protection will protect from Ultraviolet (A) rays which are the main cause of skin cancer.

Also, take care to make sure that the sunscreen you purchase contains zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These ingredients help to block both UV-A and UV-B rays.

2. Pick an SPF 30 or higher

Always use a sunscreen with SPF (Sun Protection Factor) 30 or higher. The SPF in your sunscreen absorbs and reflects the sun’s rays so they don’t burn or damage your skin.

3. Apply sunscreen early — and lots of it!

Your skin can take up to a half-hour to absorb sunscreen. So, think ahead and apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside.

And, DO NOT be cheap on the sunscreen. 1 oz should be applied to every part of your body that will be exposed to the sun. That includes your ears, feet and back of the neck.

4. Reapply sunscreen every two hours

Forget all-day protection. Even waterproof sunscreen wears off after just a couple of hours. So, make sure you apply just as much as the beginning of the day every 2 hours.

5. Don’t rely on sunscreen alone

Unfortunately, sunscreen can’t completely prevent sunburns, skin damage, blisters' and skin cancer. But you can get additional protection by wearing sun-protective clothing. Elly's line has a UPF of 50+, which means that your skin is protected from 98% of the suns rays.

Stock up on that sunscreen ASAP! Stay SUN SAFE ladies!
